what is a series?

A live TV show set and cameras. A television program which is a segment of content intended for broadcast on over-the-air, cable television, or Internet television, other than a commercial, trailer, or any other segment of content not serving as attraction for viewership.

examples of some well-known TV series:


  
Orange is the new Black                 Game of thrones                                       Stranger things               


A series need not always be based on a work of fiction.

National Geographic or Discovery Channel programmes dealing with the natural world can be series within the non-fictional category. 

E.g. A discovery channel series on sharks:
  • Spanning an entire week
  • All the programmes form part of a series about sharks.
  • A series is a set of related programmes.
  • Each programme is usually self-contained
