Unit 22 – single camera drama
Statement:
This blog is going to effectively demonstrate my single camera techniques and skills.


The single camera-camera setup, or single camera mode of production, is a method of filmmaking and video production.
A single camera-either motion picture camera or professional video camera-is employed on the set and each shot recorded to make up a scene is taken individually.

A production using the single-camera generally employs just one camera. Each of the various shots and camera angles is taken using the same camera, which is moved and reset to record for each change of shot. The lighting setup is typically reconfigured for each camera setup.
History
Traditionally, the single camera mode was used in film productions where celluloid was running through the camera because very often the cost entitled by the celluloid process excluded the option of shooting with more than one camera.
Contrast
The single camera film set up can be contrasted with the 2 camera or multiple camera set ups which are regularly used in digital film productions in TV.

Series
A series need not always be based on a work of fiction.
National Geographic or Discovery Channel programmes dealing with the natural world can be series.
E.g. A discovery channel series on sharks:
Spanning an entire week
All the programmes form part of a series about sharks.
A series is a set of related programmes.
Each programme is usually self-contained
·         Each episode has a beginning, middle and an end and the story from one episode does not usually carry over to the next.
CSI and Fiends are all examples of series.
(The plural of series is series)
Serial
A serial is usually a fictional story, which is divided into parts and broadcast perhaps every day or every week. The story is ongoing; today’s episode is a continuation of what happened yesterday. Some of the television producers have taken up well-known novels and have made them into derails
Soap operas that are watched religiously by their fans each week are examples of serials.

Single drama
Single drama used to be a staple of television but it is now quite rare.
It is designed as one-off for television.
Single drama are based on a topical issue/ subject that is more suitable for television than the cinema.
They have a strong social angle.

Single period/drama – coming of age
Drama documentary – boat dreams
